Welcome to “The Write Thing” and thank you for visiting.

This website started out as a blogging experiment – a place where I wrote mainly about my life outside of running a business and practising law. All thoroughly boring to anyone else, I’m sure, but I enjoyed blogging so much, and found the practice almost therapeutic, that I found myself writing other things – features at first (as in articles for magazines) then short fiction, then copywriting. The fiction attempts have now also expanded, and at the time of writing this intro, I am working through my second novel.

So, what you will find if you land on this site is an amalgam of blog posts and examples of professional writing – although I do have to say that I’m notoriously bad at self-promotion so it may take me a while to illustrate the latter. I hope the blogging bits and pieces are enough entertainment anyway! I certainly have fun doing those, and they remain a good escapism for me from my “day job”.

A bit about me: my name is Kate and this site is a vehicle through which I  aim to be more creative and to find my own voice. I want to push my creative thinking, conquer new horizons, broaden my outlook, and – well, basically have some fun and enjoyment.

I’m a mum to three teenagers, and my “day job” is being a business owner and lawyer. I’m also ‘mum’ to a menagerie of domestic and farm animals. I live in an absolutely gorgeous part of regional Queensland in Australia.  Because of the busy, focussed and intense nature of my career in the law, I relish and treasure my home, all that it is comprised of, and what I get up to in that life. And writing stuff is a bit part of that.

Although this blog doesn’t take comments, I can be contacted at kate@thewritething.net . I’m currently reconstructing a Facebook headquarters where connection can be made in the future.  Lastly, the anecdotes related on this blog while true may feature people whose names have been changed to protect identities.
